What is an internal tool?
An internal tool is software built for a company's own team rather than its customers, such as a job tracker, an approvals form or an inspection log. Many start as a spreadsheet. When too many people edit one sheet, an internal tool adds forms, a view for each person and permissions around the same data.
Signs a spreadsheet needs to become a tool
- Several people edit the same sheet and overwrite each other.
- People enter data on a phone, where a grid is hard to use.
- Some people should see or change only part of the data.
- Mistakes in entry keep breaking formulas.
What to keep in mind
Moving to a tool shouldn't mean moving your data somewhere new. The less you have to migrate, the less can go wrong.
Where Tabo will fit
Tabo will build forms, views and permissions around your spreadsheet and keep your data where it is. It isn't built yet: join the early-access list to be invited as places open.
Questions
Do I need a developer to build an internal tool?
Not always. Simple tools, such as forms and views over an existing sheet, can be built without one, though anything complex may still need a developer.
